SUMMARY
In June 2002 Abbey Wood implemented a 15 station SuccessMaker Enterprise network for use by the Learning Support department and also the Student Support Centre (SSC) which caters for pupils with behavioural issues. IN DETAIL
Using SuccessMaker Enterprise
Abbey Wood School

Currently 90 pupils are targeted for support via SuccessMaker Enterprise. The pupils selected are those identified for Learning Support sessions or those who attend the SSC and include a number of EAL students. Each pupil has three or four SuccessMaker Enterprise sessions per week during timetabled Learning Support lessons or SSC time. Pupils with Statements are also withdrawn from class to use the system.

"It has exceeded my expectations"  John Ingledew, Deputy Head Teacher

Both teachers and pupils have found the system very easy to use. In addition, the children are highly motivated to use SuccessMaker Enterprise and like it so much that one challenge Abbey Wood faces is stopping pupils after their 20 minutes on each course as they want to carry on!

Making a difference at Abbey Wood
Paula Mullen, Learning Support teacher

SuccessMaker Enterprise is having a real impact at Abbey Wood. Paula Mullen, Learning Support teacher, confirms that weaker students feel a sense of achievement while more able pupils are challenged.

"The vast majority of the students are enthusiastic about it." John Ingledew, Deputy Head Teacher

SuccessMaker Enterprise also supports Abbey Wood staff. Through the reports, teachers can see exactly how much time each pupil has spent on the system. The reports also highlight areas of difficulty that then become the basis for teaching activity.

"The reports are absolutely straight-forward and tell me a lot of information" John Ingledew, Deputy Head Teacher

Martyn Patterson manages the Student Support Centre. SuccessMaker Enterprise enables him to provide individual support for each SSC pupil on a one-to-one basis while the other students are working to improve their numeracy and literacy skills on SuccessMaker Enterprise.

"It's a lifesaver." Martyn Patterson, Student Support Centre Manager

Summary

Abbey Wood has implemented SuccessMaker Enterprise well and there is considerable support for it across the school, including from the Senior Management Team. This has contributed to the positive impact SuccessMaker Enterprise is having at Abbey Wood; pupils are very motivated to use the system and teachers enjoy a wealth of performance and progress data.

As John Ingledew, Deputy Head Teacher says "It has exceeded my expectations. I wasn't quite expecting the enthusiasm that a lot of the students have for it."
