Operating SystemCommunity Connect 3, Community Connect 3 SR6, Community Connect 4, MS Windows XP, RM Primary Network, RM Smart-Tools 2.4, RM Smart-Tools 3
Part No(none)
SummaryHow to add a certificate as a Trusted Root Certification Authority to Internet Explorer® 7 to overcome issues when using RM EasyLink or Microsoft® Outlook® Web Access (OWA).

Symptoms

Web sites such as RM EasyLink or OWA require the download and installation of the root CA certificate to the client Internet Explorer® browser for optimal performance and to prevent the warning message from appearing when accessing the site. This article uses RM EasyLink as an example.

Cause

The following warning box will be shown if the user has not downloaded and installed the root CA certificate.

The certificate needs to be downloaded to the client machine and installed in the correct manner. Failure to do this will result in the warning box showing every time that you access RM EasyLink.

Procedure

To bypass the Certificate Authority warning screen that appears each time you access the Web site, we recommend that you add your establishment's network as a trusted Certificate Authority as described below.

  1. On the RM EasyLink home page, choose the Download Certificate link (located bottom left of the window).
  2. When prompted, save the certificate to your desktop.
  3. Within Internet Explorer® open the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
  4. Select the Content tab and click on Certificates.
  5. From the certificates window select Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
  6. Click the Import button then click Next.
  7. Click the browse button and locate the certificate file you saved to your desktop then click Next.
  8. Confirm that the option 'Place all certificates in the following store' is set to Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click Next.
  9. At the security warning appears click Yes, then Click OK.

The Root Certificate Authority for your establishment is now installed in your browser.

Download problems

The following message may be displayed when attempting to download the certificate:

"Internet Explorer cannot download the file certificate.crt from <Web site address>. IE was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or can not be found. Please try again later."

To work around this issue:

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. From the Advanced tab, select the 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' box and click OK.
  4. Now browse to the page where you received the error and select the Download Certificate link again from the RM EasyLink Web site.

Checks

Verifying the certificate has installed onto the client's Internet Explorer

To verify that the certificate has installed into Internet Explorer:

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. Select Tools, then Internet Options.
  3. On the Content tab, select the Certificates. button.
  4. Click on the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab, now order by Friendly Name.
  5. In this example, the CA CC3 School CA root certificate has been imported.
