WTGU.exe stops my computer from shutting down

SummaryYou shut down your computer but WTGU.exe stops the process from completing.



Symptoms

When you shut down your computer, a box appears informing that WTGU.exe is not responding.


  WTGU.exe error


Cause

You will see this error message only if you have the T-Mobile web'n'walk software installed on your computer. WTGU.exe is part of the T-Mobile web'n'walk software. There is an error in the code that stops it from closing correctly when the computer is shut down.


Requirements

You will need to be logged on to your computer as a user with Administrator rights.


Procedure

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Type in MSCONFIG
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click the Startup tab.
  6. Find WTGU in the list and untick it.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Restart.
  9. Click End Now when the WTGU.exe error pops up.
  10. When the computer restarts you will have a System Configuration Utility window on your screen. Tick the box on this window and then press OK.


Checks

To confirm this has worked, shut down your computer, you should no longer have the error appearing.


More Information

So far we have only seen this error on Microsoft® Windows® XP.
