Home users using Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 7 (IE7) and RM EasyLink
Published Date : 24 Apr 2007   Last Updated : 04 Dec 2009   Content Ref: TEC912840

Operating SystemMS Windows 98, MS Windows Me, MS Windows XP
Part No(none)
SummaryHome users upgrading to IE7 may observe that when the Home Directory link is opened within RM EasyLink, the expected page is not loaded, instead the My Computer window appears.

Symptoms

What is the issue?
If home users upgrade their computers to IE7 (note: many home users will have automatically been upgraded by Windows® Update) and use RM EasyLink™ they may encounter this issue. When the RM EasyLink Home Directory link is chosen, instead of displaying the expected, RM EasyLink Home Directory page, a different page is displayed showing the My Computer folder for the local computer. Affected machines will be running IE7 and will not have Microsoft® Office® 2003 installed.

If you have IE7 on your Community Connect 3™ or RM Smart-Tools 3 network this will also affect users taking notebooks or tablet PCs home and using RM EasyLink to access the school network.

Cause

The Web Folders provider shipped with IE7 causes this issue if Office 2003 is not present, and can be resolved with the installation of a Microsoft® software update.

As this affects home users you may wish to consider adding a link to the Microsoft® software update to your RM EasyLink home page or school intranet site.

Requirements

Please encourage your pupils, staff and parents to install this software update on their home computers if the issue described above has been noticed and the computers operating system is:

  • Windows® XP;
  • Windows Vista;
  • Windows Server 2003.

Procedure

Installation of the Software Update for Web Folders

Please follow the link to the Microsoft® Software update page and follow the latest installation instructions.

Please note: this is intended only for users' home computers, a package for Community Connect 3 and RM Smart-Tools 3 stations is now released (see the link below).
