Information on Microsoft Internet Explorer Updates available for RM Window Boxes

The following document contains information about what upgrades are available for RM Window Box and RM ClassMate systems whether they are used as standalones or as part of a RM SchoolShare System.  In most cases the system can be updated to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1, but please check the sections below for further information.  If you require Internet Explorer 5.1 then please contact RM Primary Support.   In all cases references to IE mean Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The table below is a summary of the information contained in this document, it contains links to parts of the document which contain information on how to deal with the specific version of RM Window Box and RM ClassMate.  All items underlined and highlighted in blue are links to either pages to allow you to download the software required or other areas on this page.

It is important that you read all of the appropriate sections of the information that follows the table.  If required this page can be printed by clicking on the Print icon on the Browser toolbar.

RM Window Box 5.95 - Standalone

The recommended upgrade for this Window Box is to install IE3.02 onto the Manager's Desktop and then to apply the IE3.02 Attachments Fix.  This Window Box is unable to support IE4.0 or IE5.1 due to hardware limitations which give unacceptable performance for the whole Window Box.

Warning: Users should not be given access to the Internet via the Manager's desktop as this will allow access to tools and programs normally restricted by the RM ClassMate software, for example ClassMate Manager, Windows Explorer and Control Panel.

RM Window Box 5.95 on RM SchoolShare

As this Window Box is on an RM SchoolShare it should have already been upgraded to IE3.02 (to check, load Internet Explorer and click Help About).  If you have RM EasyMail then you will already have the attachments fix and therefore no upgrade is required.

If you do not have RM EasyMail then you will need the IE3.02 Attachments Fix.

RM Window Box 6.0 and 6.01 - Standalone

The recommended upgrade for this Window Box is to upgrade to RM ClassMate 3, then install IE5.1 and use the IE5Update fix.  This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser.

If you do not wish to upgrade to RM ClassMate 3, you can upgrade to IE5.1 completely free of charge.  However,  IE5.1 will only be usable on the RM ClassMate Managers Desktop and you will not be able to distribute access to the software to other RM ClassMate users.

RM Window Box 6.0 and 6.01 on RM SchoolShare

As this Window Box already has RM ClassMate 3 installed, only the IE5.1 Upgrade is required. This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser.  You will need IE5.1, and then download IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site.

RM Window Box 6.5 - Standalone

RM ClassMate 3 was shipped as a free upgrade to all customers receiving this Window Box.  Once RM ClassMate 3 is installed, you will need IE5.1, and then download IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site. This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser.

RM Window Box 6.5 on RM SchoolShare

As this Window Box already has RM ClassMate 3 installed only the IE5.1 upgrade is required. This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser.  You will need IE 5.1, and then download IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site.

RM Window Box 7.0 - Standalone & RM SchoolShare

This Window Box already has RM ClassMate 3 installed.   The only upgrade required is to install the IE5.1 software.  This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser. You will need IE 5.1, and then download the IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site.

On an Internet Ready RM Window Box 7 it is not recommended to upgrade the version of Internet Explorer as this can cause problems with the operating system and the Internet Tools provided as standard.

RM Window Box 8.0 Standalone & RM SchoolShare

This Window Box has RM ClassMate 4.0 installed and IE4.0.   The only upgrade required is to install the IE5.1 software.  This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser. You will need IE5.1, and then download the IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site.

RM ClassMate II

The recommended upgrade for this Window Box is to install IE3.02 onto the Manager's Desktop and then to apply the IE3.02 Attachments Fix.  This system is unable to support IE4.0 or IE5.1 due to hardware limitations which give unacceptable performance for the whole Computer.

RM ClassMate 3

This system can be upgraded to IE5.1. This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser.  You will need IE5.1, and then download IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site.

RM ClassMate 4.01

This system may already have IE5.1 and if so only the IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site is required.

If IE4.0 is installed then an upgrade to IE5.1 can be applied. This will ensure all Internet users i.e. Manager and Internet will get IE5.1 as their default Internet Browser.  You will need IE5.1, and then download IE5Update from the Primary Support Web Site.
