Web filtering exclusively for education

What's new?

RM Education is pleased to announce that the new release of RM SafetyNet is now available. We’ve been hard at work for months to give schools an improved experience with greater flexibility and control over your internet filtering.

Granular user-based filtering

User-based filtering (UBF) is a new feature which will allow RM SafetyNet to sync with your active directory so that all school users will be visible through the RM SafetyNet administrator portal giving you more control over how your school filtering works. This new level of customisation will enable the administrator to group users together by year group, key stage, after-school club etc and give groups bespoke access to certain websites at certain times of day.

Bandwidth graphs

We have also released the first stage of reporting with bandwidth graphs for your Internet use. You do not have to do anything to receive these, they will appear in your admin interface. They’ve been designed to give you a good indication of how much bandwidth you’re using. If you’re regularly reaching your limit then it could be a good time to speak to our team about your options.

New user interface design

A completely redesigned interface, giving you a much cleaner and simpler workspace. All of your existing settings will still be there; it will just be easier and more straightforward for you to be able to perform actions and view your information.

SSL interception for Google

RM SafetyNet’s SSL filtering intercepts and inspects all Google search results even after they moved to SSL encryption in June this year. This feature is not available in all cloud-based filtering solutions, which means that you will run the risk of inappropriate search results, including images, being displayed to your school community.

Internet usage reports for your establishment will be released in September 2016, allowing you to view what your users have been doing online and identify any concerning behaviours. The reporting features will evolve over the coming months to show trends across your school.

Ready for user-based filtering?

To receive user-based filtering there is a small task that we require you to do on your end. First, we will need to install an AD Sync agent on your server (2008 R2), which then requires you to restart your server and reset passwords for all users. Once completed you will need to change the proxy address on all devices where user-based filtering is being used.

We want to make sure that your transition to user-based filtering is as seamless as possible, and as a SWGfL customer, you are entitled to free use of this feature until August 2016. To sign up for the free trial, please fill out the form below and a coordinator will be in touch to arrange for the AD Sync installation to take place.

User-based filtering will be an optional service when you come to renew this summer, the annual cost for the additional module is £250 for a primary school and £450 for a secondary school.
