Introduction
The key points of the Product Safety Notice are:
- Do not use CD ROM disks that are cracked.
- If cracked CD ROM disks are used in high speed CD ROM drives they can be dangerous.
- It affects computers manufactured by a number of companies.
- We have identified the RM computers that are affected.
You should immediately advise all users of RM computers with high speed CD ROM drives that each time they put a CD ROM in the drive they should check to ensure that the disk does not contain cracks. They should not use any media that has a crack.
How are you going to help me tell staff? Students?
We have provided labels with the letter to apply to machines, to act as
a reminder every time that users put CDs in.
To help you further, you may wish to consider the
following ways of informing users:
- There is a printable display poster
on the website which you could consider for use as a
display guide around your establishment.
- We have created two graphics
files that can be used as the Windows desktop
wallpaper. This would ensure that the safety advice
is clearly visible to every user whenever they use
the computer.
You could include a web
link in the Windows StartUp folder to the web page
we have created that advises users to check CDs (this
method is ideal for networks).
Can you give me guidelines/posters/more labels?
Yes, please use the email link on the website or call our Advice Line to request more labels.
A display poster for general use is also downloadable from the website.
I've lost the letter you sent to me with the list of serial numbers. Please can you resend the list?
If you have a logon to rm.com, then the list of serial numbers affected and shipped to your
establishment are available online in a printable format. Click on the register link below to register online.
Please confirm your email address or telephone so that we can let you know your username
and password.
