You have sent me 25 shields and I have 27 affected
machines. Can I have some more? You should use Support
Online to inform RM of this.
RM will then co-ordinate investigating the shortage and
getting additional shields delivered to you asap.
I have broken one of the shields, can I get a
replacement? There are a limited number of replacement
shields available in the unlikely event that you damage a
shield on fitment. You should use Support Online to inform us
of this.
I have extra shields - will I send them back to
you? It is possible that you may have one or two
shields remaining as they have been shipped to you in
multiples of 5. There is no need to return these to RM. You
may dispose of them though it is advisable to keep them as
spares.
Isn’t putting metal inside or near a computer
dangerous? RM has conducted extensive validation of the
shield from a safety point of view. We do not believe there
are any safety issues arising through fitment of the shield or
through its use.
Does fitting these shields affect my
warranty? Your warranty is completely unaffected by
fitting the shield to your RM machine.
If I change the CDROM drive myself, can I re-use the
shield? No, the shield is designed for a ‘once only’
fit (although the shield has been proved to be effective with
and without the adhesive strips). This shield is also designed
solely for use with this type of drive. It is not
designed to fit in other manufacturer’s drive.
Will the shield affect the use of the CDROM disks at
all? No - the shield has been designed so as not to
interfere with its operation.
Can I use these shields in other, non affected
drives? No - these shields will only fit in this
manufacturer’s drives. The amount of shields you have been
given should be used to cover the affected drives that have
been identified.
If I fit this shield, will my machines then be 100% safe
from disk shatter? No- the shield is designed to reduce
the risk of any material from exiting the drives should a
shatter occur. It DOES NOT prevent shatter itself. In the
unlikely event you do experience a disk shatter event whilst
using a cracked CD you should use Support Online and we will arrange for a drive swap.
A disk has just shattered and I have removed all the
pieces, can I continue to use this same shield or will I have
to change it for a new one? NO - the shield is not
designed for re-use. In the unlikely event that you do
experience a shatter event whilst using a cracked CD, you
should use Support Online. We
will then arrange for your drive to be swapped out with a new
drive that is not affected by this safety issue.
Can you tell me who made these shields? Was it
RM? These shields have been made by the CD ROM drive
manufacturer.
