RM Disk to Disk to Tape Total Backup Solution
Centralised backup for demanding networks
|
Product Overview
In recent years, schools' storage requirements have dramatically increased as a result of delivering media-rich lessons. Day-to-day school life is becoming increasingly paperless, with users needing to rely more on central data storage. Therefore, schools backup strategies need to be more robust and efficient in order to effectively protect this large amount of critical data.
RM has created a Disk to Disk to Tape backup solution in order to help you deliver this more sophisticated and reliable backup strategy. Instead of backing up each server to its own tape drive, backup is centrally managed, simplifying day to day activities.
The RM Disk to Disk to Tape Backup Solution is based on an RM Diskbox XL (disk staging space), a Tandberg LTO4 StorageLoader and Symantec Backup Exec 2010. We also include RM support, installation and training as well as LTO4 tapes and a cleaning cartridge for every solution.
Have total peace of mind that your network is being backed up efficiently and routinely.
Educational Benefits
- There are two stages of data backup rather than one which minimises risk and increases reliability so that the Network Manager can sleep at night!
- Disk backup is faster than tape backup increasing the likelihood that the school's backup window will not be exceeded. Duplication to tape (using the LTO4 Storageloader) only happens once disk backup (on the RM DiskBox) is complete, meaning no network bandwidth is consumed during the day.
- Centralising and simplifying the backup process through employing the RM Disk to Disk to Tape Backup Solution frees up time to spend on other network developments.
- Fewer full Backup Exec Windows Server Licences are required and there is no need for any new servers to be configured with internal backup devices.

Product Features
- The RM Disk to Disk to Tape Backup Solution can be used to restore files from any networked station in the school.
- It can simplify your backup strategy and increase the ease of backing up data as it is centralised.
- The RM Diskbox XL incorporates RAID 0 for high read/write performance.
- The operating system sits on its own stand alone hard drive- reducing downtime in the event of hard disk failure.
- The solution is validated, installed and supported by RM, so you can have confidence that your data is in good hands.
- The hotswappable drives make it easier to upgrade to cope with future increases in your school's data.
- Both the RM DiskBox XL and Tandberg Storageloader are rack-mountable saving you space in your server room.
- Managing one set of tapes for the library is simple and easier than managing different tapes for different servers.
- The solution uses Symantec Backup Exec 2010, enabling you to easily manage and schedule backup to your school's needs.
- The operating system is stored on a discrete disk, meaning less downtime and more confidence that even in the event of a disk failure, your data will be safe and available quickly.
- Specific D2D2T training is included as part of the product solution, which means that you start your journey with the confidence to manage your new backup regime.
