Why Infrastructure?

Three key reasons

If infrastructure is working brilliantly, it's almost invisible. Think of it as a grey box, the nerve centre of your school, packed with potential.
Actually, there are different 'grey boxes' which you can hook neatly together in the spirit of convergence. Get them right, and you can reduce your school's carbon footprint, cut inefficiencies and lower costs. Get them right today, and you'll be prepared for the changes of tomorrow.

1. Saving money

How do you deliver an improved level of ICT service with huge cuts to capital expenditure?  By making smart investments you can lower the total cost of ownership, making savings over a number of years.

For example, by virtualising your servers, you can make demonstrable savings.  Virtualisation means fewer physcial servers - less hardware, less support, fewer services.  For example, we helped Dyke House School in Hartlepool reduce their number of servers from eleven to two.

2. Saving time

How much time do your staff spend managing old, inefficient systems?

Networks are becoming complicated - more data, more clients, more connectivity, more reliance on the network.  It's important that your ICT staff are focussed on the right things.  Modern infrastructure systems are specfically targeted at making the job of a Network Manager easier and more efficient.

For example, Darren Williams, the Network Manager at The Abbey School in Reading found that: "Implementing the Disk to Disk to Tape solution halved the amount of time the network manager spent checking the backups."

Alastair Hetherington at Longbenton College had a similar comment: "Everything is faster, stability is better, there's less downtime and we are less stressed.  We finally feel like we aren't just coping, we are taking steps forward and progressing"

3. Be prepared

Technology continues to advance more quickly than ever and teaching and learning is increasingly reliant on this technology.  This technology has a huge impact on a school's underlying infrastructure so it's important to make the right decisions to deliver a high service level today and in the future.

For example, a range of technology is converging onto IP technology.  TV, telephony, cashless catering, alarms, entry systems - all of these will place an increasing level of strain on your network infrastructure.  Many schools have ageing infrastructure which is no longer fit for purpose; it's vital to have an Infrastructure that is ready for the next 5-10 years of technology.
