Product Overview

RM SafetyNet Plus is an Internet filtering service designed specially for educational establishments.

It's a easy to use solution which has customisable local filtering which gives you complete control over which Web sites, Web searches and file extensions your users can access.

RM SafetyNet Plus has recently released a new version, incorporating time based filtering, secure passwords, muyltiple filter lists and many more improvements.

RM SafetyNet Plus is also a BECTA Accredited Internet Service Provider. This ensures the product meets the high standard set out by BECTA.

RM is a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), the UK internet hotline for the public to report their inadvertent exposure to online child sexual abuse content hosted anywhere in the world and criminally obscene content and incitement to racial hatred content hosted in the UK.

The IWF works in partnership with the online industry, government, police and the public. As a result of this self-regulatory approach, less than 1% of online child sexual abuse content has apparently been hosted in the UK since 2003, down from 18% in 1997.

In December 2009 RM started rolling out the latest version of RM SafetyNet Plus - version 4.0. Migration to the new service is free-of-charge to existing customers and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2010.

What's new in RM SafetyNet Plus 4.0?

RM SafetyNet Plus is going through a refresh to give you a better filtering experience, and this is currently being rolled out to customers free-of-charge. New features include:

New Graphical User Interface	New look-and-feel making information faster to retrieve and easier to find and understand. We've made it easier to review and manage all of your filtering settings, you can upload multiple rules at once, search large rule lists with more ease, and you've got more control over your filter page.
Tab-based Navigation	Menus are organised through quick-browse tabs allowing faster navigation from one menu option to another with minimum fuss.
Time-based filtering	Allocate different filter policies at different times of the day, eg you may want to allow non-educational games or YouTube during lunchtime but not during the rest of the day.
Flexible time periods	Choose from our default periods (eg lunchtime between 12 & 2), edit these defaults or create your own time periods.
Create multiple filter lists	Create your own filter lists and apply these lists at set periods of the day. Prioritise these lists accordingly.
Active-Adapt content filter	Dynamic, contect sensitive content filtering.
Forgotten password functionality	Quick method for requesting a new password.
Secure passwords	New passwords created must now be secure (greater than 8 characters; mixture of lower and upper case; alpha numeric)
Email tied in to users and email address verification	Secure allocation of new passwords and clear audit trial of activity
Logs	Provides an audit trail of local changes made to the filtering system, showing what changes were made, who made them and when.
Multiple administrative users	Create more than one administrative user to avoid password sharing and allow audit trails of specific administrative tasks. This improves security and allows you to share the workload. Also, you can add users as 'read only'; this allows head teachers, for example, to easily view the settings when required.
Suggest a site to be filtered/unfiltered link	Easily accessible link allowing administrators to quickly request the filtering or unfiltering of a web page.
Add multiple rules to your own filter lists	Create your own filter lists, specifically for your establishment, and add as many rules as you like into these lists. This saves you time adding rules to your lists individually and allows you to import multiple rules (e.g from another schools filter list).
Improved Help	Complete rewrite of all Help text to guide you through the new features and User Interface.
Read Only users	Create Read Only users who can view filtering polices but not amend them. Useful for providing information to the Senior Management Team or teachers.
Custom Image	Add a custom image to the filter page and display your establishments logo/name.
Quick-search facility	Quick searches available for filter rules, logs and users enabling you to get information quickly - particularly useful for locating specific filtered/unfiltered web pages if you have created multiple local filtering rules.
Better filtering and web proxy performance	Back-end upgrades mean that filtering performance is improved allowing quicker return of web page requests.
Improved redundancy and performance	New method for proxy rebuilds allow SafetyNet Plus proxy servers to be rebuild in a few minutes if a problem is encountered, meaning faster recovery and maintained performance.

System Requirements

You need an RM Internet connection to receive RM SafetyNet Plus.

RM SafetyNet Plus lets you apply a site-wide policy, but does not enable you to differentiate by user. This functionality is addressed by RM SafetyNet Universal for SmartCache 2.

RM SafetyNet Plus is only available if you have an ISDN, ADSL, Broadband or Leased Line connection to IFL using routed static public IP addresses.

If you have a non-IFL connection, RM SafetyNet Universal is available as an optional module for RM SmartCache 2.
