Ipads are often seen as a toy but in the classroom they open up the possibilities for children. Let's start with the fact that learning to use an Ipad, or any other tablet, is a skill in itself. We need to prepare children for the world of the future and Ipads will be there. In learning about Ipads they are becoming aware of that part of technology as well as engaging with the apple brand outwith traditional PCs which are more apparent in schools. Apps - there are a range out there for every subject and user. There are a range of quick fire (often free) games. These are great for quick practises of skills or as a reward. There are then more prominent key apps which become a teaching tool in themselves. This leads onto using the Ipad. This is an example of the Ipad being used at it's best. A pupil is reading their story through i-books. They can make the text larger and brighter if needed. They come across a word they don't know and they can select and define it. As they read they can add notes to the pages to remind them of key parts. They can then go create a book report in pages and click and copy pictures from the book straight into the report. They can then email this directly to the teacher. In the future, every school should be using Ipads in their classrooms as a core teaching tool.

Amazing in the classroom

The Ipad 2 has brought something to the classroom that no other product could. It can be used for such a diverse range of things within the school environment especially with SEN children. The wireless connects effortlessly every time. The cameras are used to make action movies and animations, sending pictures effortlessly between devices with no downloading first. Documents can be written and shared between children and staff. They are definitely smooth operators :) Ours started the year by being used to assess the new foundation children that came into school, which made it easier for the teachers to see what they were doing with the clear colourful screens. They are used for group reading around tables as the script is clear and easy to keep your place on the page. They can be used as a treat at the end of the week as well. Lots of uses, lots of fun.

The Ipad 2 is a great tool not only for teachers but all so for the students, offers us a great variety of app to help learn.

A educational revolution

The ipad2 offers consumers everything that the ipad1 was missing in terms of its educational benefits. The ipad1 was good and in fact for day to day administration and for teaching in multiple spaces it is a must have in my opinion. The ipad offers teachers a one stop shop for integrating technology into the classroom. The ipad2 now pushes the boundaries of possibility with 2 cameras and a mirrored display of what you are doing on the ipad. This takes away the need for a visualiser and with apps a plenty aimed at the education market you can also link it up to ipods and iphones to create an interactive voting system. The benefit of apps is that the ipad will keep reinventing itself as new ideas and concepts are made into cheap applications. Consider using animation in the classroom and editing it on the imovie app, or creating sound and music in the garageband app. The ipad offers so many possibilities. Although the ipad does cost more than some alternatives the benefits and versatility the device offers makes it a sound investment.
