Education Scotland has extended its partnership with RM Technology to continue delivering Glow – Scotland’s national digital learning platform – until September 2027, marking 20 years of collaboration supporting learners and teachers across all 32 Local Authorities. This marks the second extension of the contract and reflects the platform’s relevance in Scotland’s education system.
Launched in 2008 to provide consistent access to digital learning tools in Scotland, Glow became a critical resource during the pandemic as schools pivoted to remote learning. Since then, its use has continued to grow, with March 2025 recording 8,347,322 sessions — the highest number in a single month post-pandemic. This sustained uptake highlights Glow’s role as a core component of Scotland’s digital learning infrastructure, supporting teaching and learning in classrooms and at home.
Glow uses RM’s Unify platform (part of RM’s Identity and Access Management solution) to provide secure, streamlined access to key learning tools, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace for Education, Glow Blogs, and a wide library of approved applications. The platform is now also integrated with a range of new digital tools that reflect the needs of Scotland’s classrooms.
Working closely with Education Scotland, RM has supported the integration of tools from providers such as Google and Adobe, broadening the scope of digital learning experiences available through Glow. These include AI-powered tools like Google Gemini — bringing generative AI into the classroom — and Notebook LM, which assists teachers in creating classroom content such as quizzes, summaries, and teaching guides.
Adobe Express has also been introduced, with all Local Authorities now having full access to the Adobe suite, including mobile apps. Adobe has supported this rollout by delivering webinars, learning guides, and classroom-ready activities to help educators maximise the tools’ potential.
By simplifying login processes and securely managing access at scale, RM enables hundreds of thousands of Scottish learners and educators to engage with a rich and adaptable digital learning environment. For the latest updates about Glow, please see the Glow Connect News Page.
As demand for digital learning continues to rise — from the integration of AI tools in the classroom to hybrid approaches that extend learning beyond the school day — Glow remains a trusted foundation for delivering equitable access to technology. RM’s technical expertise, infrastructure, and ongoing support help ensure the platform is reliable and scalable.
"Glow plays a crucial role in the modern-day Scottish education system, providing all learners and teachers with access to a range of digital tools and resources to support their learning. Access to these tools helps children and young people develop the valuable skills they need to succeed in our digital world"

Mark Simmonds, COO RM Technology, said:
We’re proud to continue supporting Glow as it evolves alongside the needs of Scotland’s schools. Nearly a decade ago, we began this partnership in a very different technological landscape, and today, as the demand for remote learning and tools that extend beyond the classroom soars, our continued collaboration with Education Scotland ensures that digital learning remains accessible, relevant, and effective for all.
“We are very pleased to continue our partnership with RM Technology. Glow is Scotland’s national digital learning platform supporting learning across the whole curriculum. During the 2023 -24 academic year we had over 529,000 unique users and over 65 million Glow logins – even higher than the previous year. This partnership will support us to continue to provide a robust service for practitioners and pupils.”
